TLIG – KV/RH have temporarily stepped down.
Paul Buckley at Sheffield Hallam is current chair, no chair for teaching and
learning group – also issue around one day e-learning conference. Need
to monitor situation.

Gomersal work – WW has made contact. Possibility of an event around the
work. Anne Oakley (Institute of Education) may be a useful contact to pursue

Scottish post-16 module – JaP notes European project which may use SLIC
work or Ticket to Find. SQA have approved qualification linked to SLIC work.

CILIP article – PG has done draft. Might be better to include item in
Gazette rather than Update. Need to look at this again.

3 MATTERS ARISING
Action plan:

Scottish work is ongoing. Some contact with Aberystwyth.
2B Carry forward SCONUL meeting 04 – more actions required here (may
come out of e-learning work)

3B business case will be a big piece of work in the autumnbriefing paper on
learning outcomes on target
1C more focus required - add in mention of ACHS project. Social Sciences could
also be a good subject area to target, given Gomersal work.

2C Bath staff development event – JoP attending
3C Website. Thanks to Selena for her hard work.
Mock up of the page for the model looks good.
All committee need to draw items for addition to her attention.

From Selena’s papers sent round 12/5 further information is required:
Some biogs are missing
Are there any more important events (past or present) that should be there
Brief paragraph and point of contact for any areas of current research
Content required for dissertation and thesis section
More links required on organisations, programmes, sources of information
Follow up on action plan for website
Follow up on past reports/archiving previous notes and action plans
HJ to discuss ‘quick wins’ with Selena regarding development of
site

2D elit – is ACIL represented. Also Manchester conference, is that still
happening?

3D Good progress on conferences
4D learning outcomes publication due soon – possibility of an event around
the publication; HJ to follow up

MOSAIC reversion evaluation: nothing from EduServ. Reading
and Newport will be using the materials again for a small fee which will fund
any amendments arising from evaluation (any ACIL member is welcome to consider
this). UCE quote came in at £10,500, which is still too much. Business
case to be put to board on the strength of member recommendations and existing
evidence.

University of Galway have also been in touch with HJ about MOSAICPotential for
linkage to Irish equivalent of SCONUL; TB is attending their next meeting
4 Task Force on e-learning
Date has been set for a meeting (12/7)
Membership is Sue Roberts, Gill Needham, HJ, Jane Core, Elizabeth Heaps, Philip
Payne, and Ruth Jenkins.
Member from UCISA may be required (check at first meeting).

E-learning strategies: would be useful to map out areas of overlapping interest
between organisations (ALT/ACIL/UCISA) alongside HEFCE e-learning strategy
HEFCE reply to strategy responses not yet on website
DfES analysis of responses is on website
12 million granted to JISC to support HEFCE e-learning strategy (funding possibilities)

Pat Breivik has proposed an ‘International Alliance’ which will
feed into National Forum – ACIL invited to be a ‘node’ –
TB to put to Executive Board

6 Learning outcomes paper
Content is ready and with Shan Wareing for introduction and commentary by end
May. Expect it will be 80 pages long.
LTSN should cover costs, SCONUL will badge it.
Clarify with LTSN - need to negotiate costs, numbers, distribution, SW’s
fee

SCONUL’s marketing and communication committee may be able to help if
required. TB to inform them publication is on its way – LTSN should receive
material early June, expect publication in early July.

7 CILIP meeting
Nothing to report; ST may be able to supply some information by email

Joint health event, March 1st
Well attended, broad geographic spread, good mix of participants from HE and
NHS. Concern over publicity only going out by email proved unfounded. Presentations
interesting, especially Welsh Assembly, Portsmouth/Southampton project, NHS
health informatics work.
Group work around competencies for information literacy.
HJ circulated summary of group discussions
User First and Pathway for Health documents – pathway for information
skills for health arose out of the former. Invitation to e.g. JISC/NHS to fund
it. Noted that project has been worked up since it first came to ACIL meeting;
corresponds to ACIL action plan on subject work. Intention is to explore accreditation
for the scheme.
Actions from event (UMSLG, ACHS or ACIL): see document circulated after the
meeting by HJ.

8 AOB
Visit to OU from Sheila Webber who mentioned ENIL - European organisation (invitation
only) on IL. JoP to find out more

One of Sheila’s students is doing MA research on federated search
interfaces and IL
Membership of ACIL - approach Sheila W with a view to her joining the Committee.
Could also be scope to collaborate when AHRB project results are published.
