SCONUL's successful Summer Conference

19 June, 2009

Last week SCONUL's Summer Conference convened at the Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth. Running from the 10-12 June, the conference explored a number of key themes running through the academic library community including:

  • The growth of open access systems of delivery
  • The changing role of librarians and university libraries
  • The effects of the credit crunch on university libraries

SCONUL Secretary, Toby Bainton, looks back at some of the highlights:

"The conference provided a timely opportunity to reflect on current concerns and future trends. With financial constraints a concern across higher education, this year's conference provided a perfect opportunity for members to meet and discuss the issues and challenges facing our profession. We would like to thank the collection of international speakers who offered an enlightening perspective and expert insight"

"Alongside this, the packed activities programme allowed members to fully explore and enjoy Bournemouth."

A full report of the conference will appear in SCONUL Focus 47 with a summary of events in this month's e-bulletin.
