UK Research Reserve receives key support

20 March, 2007

The UK Research Reserve has received key support from the research and library community which will help to ensure fully representative, collaborative and co-ordinated development of the UKRR.

Professor Drummond Bone, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Liverpool has agreed to chair the Advisory Board of the UK Research Reserve project. The Advisory Board will lead consultation, discussion and advocacy with the research and library community to guide the development of the UKRR prototype during Phase 1 of the project. The membership of the Advisory Board will include representatives of key stakeholders, including the research community, RIN, SCONUL, CURL, the British Library and the funding councils.

SCONUL has agreed to act as the body which will co-ordinate the retention of an appropriate number of copies of print journals across the sector. As the "early adopting" HE libraries select journals for withdrawal, the UKRR will ensure that a minimum number of copies of print journals remain in the HE sector. This process of "co-ordinated de-selection" is new and is one of the elements of the UKRR which will ensure the long term retention and access to print material for the research community.
