Library Design Awards and Showcase 2019
Three libraries have been short listed in the small category of the 2019 SCONUL Library Design Awards.
The aim of the development was to extend, refurbish and refresh the Albert Sloman Library Library - to improve the original structure while maintaining its strong presence. To be the intellectual centre at the heart of the research-led university, supporting a wide and growing range of learning and research needs. |
This was a refurbishment project of an existing library; with the aim of creating more study space and IT provision. ‘Elegance and versatility’ underpinned the project, providing the ‘wow factor’ for students. The versatility of the refurbished space has also had a tangible impact on UCL’s new Student Centre which opened in February 2019. |
The library is at the heart of and influenced the overall design of an impressive and award-winning new building which has had a highly positive impact on the College’s relationship with the city, ‘breathing life’ into the neighbourhood. Students, researchers and clinicians at all stages of their careers are brought together, helping drive the College’s strategic shift towards “team based, self-directed, life-long and inter-professional learning” and enabling radical curriculum change. |
