AI coffee morning
The AI and information literacy CIG will be taking over our AI coffee morning once more for June, and will focus on using AI content discovery tools to develop user skills and competencies. We will be joined by the following speakers:
- Mike Jones, Information Librarian at Southampton Solent University, will introduce the TRYangle Approach, a framework he has developed for teaching students how to tackle information evaluation, fit for the AI age. Merging previous approaches such as the CRAAP Test, SIFT and CCOW with more recent concepts such as Proactive Evaluation, the TRYangle Approach aims to equip students with the confidence, skills and understanding required to engage any information they encounter with a critical mindset.
- Nicholas Heavey, Teaching and Learning Librarian at University of Sussex, will present Sussex Library's approach to delivering AI literacy training, with a focus on AI-assisted content discovery tools. Grounded in UNESCO's AI Competency Framework, sessions are built around the principle that human judgement remains central to the effective and critical use of AI. Students are introduced to foundational concepts including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) and semantic search, alongside practical skills in question formulation and prompt engineering. The session also addresses the implications of automating scholarly inquiry and encourages critical reflection on learning. The session is tool-agnostic, meaning its principles and practices apply across a changing landscape of AI-assisted search platforms.
The AI coffee morning will take place on 26 June 2026 from 10.00 - 11.30hrs, please email sconul@sconul.ac.uk for registration details.
