Advocacy

SCONUL is an active advocate for the value and impact of its member libraries.  We argue for the library's critical role in delivering the missions of its institutions, whether that is supporting and delivering research; teaching and learning; knowledge management expertise for the institution or community engagement.

We lobby to help create a favourable environment for libraries and their users, for example arguing for reform of academic publishing.  Our Board; strategy groups and staff team all play a critical role and represent the community on a wide range of working groups and including the UUK content negotiations group; the UKRI open access working groups and the Green Libraries Partnership.  We engage directly with a wide range of stakeholders.

SCONUL also empowers its members' own advocacy work by providing the tools and information needed to demonstrate impact. We produce benchmarking statistics which provides a rich source of advocacy data, hold events surfacing best and emerging practice; share information on policy and regulatory changes impacting our members and produce briefing papers and research which are available in our Knowledge Hub.
