Scope 3 webinar
A summary of this event together with the recording, chat transcript and presentations can be found here: https://sconul.ac.uk/knowledge-hub/sustainability/scope-3-webinar-3-may-2024/
Led by the SCONUL project team on sustainability and the climate crisis, we brought colleagues together on Friday 3rd May 2024 to explore what the drive to reduce SCOPE 3 emissions means for our institutions and how we can work with our supply chain, our spaces and our people to drive the change we all need to see.
We also heard how colleagues in other libraries and sectors are approaching these challenges and to consider what actions we can take collectively to make change. There was an opportunity to colleagues to share practice and experience, to contribute to the Q&A, to consider approaches and how potential barriers to change might be addressed.
Our speakers:
- Dr Rachel Dunk, Principal Lecturer, & Christopher Paling, Senior Lecturer, Manchester Metropolitan University who discussed what Scope 3 means for libraries.
- Rowan Williamson, Associate Director Library Services and Support, University of the Arts London who presented ‘Going for Net Zero at UAL Libraries – A case study’. UAL has declared themselves a social purpose University. Rowan spoke about how they can channel this strategic commitment to create change. By empowering staff, challenging assumptions and using data they are driving change in their policy and practice, and actively seeking to influence behaviours beyond the institution.
- India Divers, Policy and Campaigns Officer, Museums Association who spoke about the Museum’s Association climate justice campaign.
