AI coffee morning - November
At our most recent AI coffee morning, we discussed the use of AI to support researchers and we heard from Scott Taylor, Head of Library Research Services, about the work being undertaken at University of Manchester around culture and ways of working, as well as the technology itself.
Scott spoke about some ongoing projects, support for upskilling library staff and how he got buy-in for his work.
Participants felt this type of approach might work for SDG mapping and also for improving reproducibility in research more broadly.
There was a group discussion about the ethics of AI tools in reinforcing bias and understanding how they work ‘under the hood’. There was a wish to move from more reactive use of tools to a more planned and strategic approach. The group would like to see a collaborative approach taken to this to save on limited resources, especially as guidance changes regularly.
